The Greatest Gift

There is no doubt that we live in a troubled world.  Our society is filled with war, strife, violence, sickness, suffering, and death.  Every day as we listen to the news we hear of another tragedy in which innocent lives are affected.

If we stop and think about the world in which we live, we can easily become discouraged.  Before we get too down, we need to hold on to the promise of Jesus when He said, “Let not your heart be troubled…I will come again and receive you unto Myself, that where I am there you will be also” (John 14:1-3 NKJV).  Just before His death, Jesus promised His disciples that one day soon He will come back for them.  When He does, He will make all things right again.  There will be no more heartache, sickness, or suffering.  We will live and reign with Christ throughout eternity.  The promise of the Second Coming brings great hope for those of us living in a dark world and is our greatest gift.

As we celebrate the Christmas season, may we come to know the Babe of Bethlehem in a very personal way.  He came into the world for you and me - to save us from our sins!  By knowing Him, we have nothing to fear for the future.  His birth gives us peace and assurance while living in a world that is fast falling apart.   Jesus is our Savior and Friend.  The One who died for us years ago is the same One who promised to come back and take us home.  Alleluia.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
